So, maybe that wasn't the smartest way to get Antonio Ramiero's attention, but Hey! He'll definitely remember my name now...
10 minutes earlier
"Jenna, I love you, but Antonio? Are you kidding me?!" Says my best friend Paul.
"If I don't get a date to Lizzy's party I'm gonna look lame." I whine, "So, how should I get his attention? Ignoring him is not gonna do me any good."
"Here's my advice before you do something completely stupid, consider the fact that Antonio is popular, and a prick. Just because I'm gay doesn't mean I will help you do stupid crap to get a guy's attention. I have a reputation too." Paul says.
"Please, don't let me die among the popular freaks because you had male advice you were hiding from me!"
He sighs and resigns. "What's your plan? I know you're gonna do something no matter what I have to say..."
"So first, I'm gonna put on this outfit." I pull out a Walmart bag and show it to Paul.
He peeks in the bag and his face goes red. "Jenna, no." In the bag are a bright pink push-up bra, booty shorts, a white cut-out crop top, pink fishnets, and a pair of black pumps. "You're gonna be dress coded the moment you step out of that bathroom," he says.
"Next, during lunch, I'm gonna sit at his table right next to him in the middle of all his friends."
"Jenna take a step back. If step one isn't working, abandon ship!"
"But you didn't even hear the end of the plan," I complain.
"No, part of this plan seems like a good one. But, sure," he says sarcastically." what's next?
"So I sit at his table and ask him if he wants a piece of gum, you know? And he'll definitely say 'Yes'. Then I will offer to give him more than one simple piece of gum if I can show up to Lizzy's party on his arm." I smile and Paul's face is buried deep in his hands.
"Jenna, he's definitely gonna take that the wrong way. He's either going to think you're a creep or he's going to prove himself to be an even worse creep than we already believe he is."
"What is there to take the wrong way I was going to offer him a whole pack of gum or maybe 5 if he wanted," I say. What is Paul getting at?
"You didn't tell me earlier that you were going to offer him more gum, you just said something more, which comes out to all dickheaded guys as an innuendo or naughty suggestion." Paul reprimands under his breath. My face heats as I think about what Paul said and I'm nervous again. What do I say?
"Well, then I'll uh..." I'm lost and hoping Paul can fish me something that isn't disastrous.
"Alright, here's what you should do. Listening?"
"Yes," I plead.
"First, put on a bit more mascara and lipgloss, I know you brought it with you because you are trying too hard to impress the asshole. Next, walk up to his table confidently and ask him to come with you away from his table so you could ask him something. Honestly, if he doesn't get up you shouldn't ask it even in front of his friends, but if you do he might admire you more. So, up to you. No matter what his response is don't cry, tears of joy nor displeasure. Guys get uncomfortable when girls are emotional."
"Really?"
"Really." Paul looks dead serious. "If his response is yes, then the two of you can plan the details of the party. If he says no, then come up with something that might make him want to come. Not the gum thing, or anything gross; try something like an opportunity to get an ex back - dependant upon whether or not he wants her back."
My heart sinks, I'm doomed. "I planned on doing this during lunch, is that okay?"
"Sure, as long as you're not distracting him from his food or friends for too long. He'll become cranky and uncooperative if you do."
I'm grateful to have Paul around. "So I better go now then?"
"Like I said go put on more mascara and lip gloss." I go to the bathroom and I still don't think I look alluring enough, but Paul told me none of the outfit...
Paul could be wrong, so I'll just change my bra. I wore a grey sports bra today under my black tank top. It doesn't seem to show up too much... I can't keep critiquing myself in the mirror. I have to go for it.
As I enter the cafeteria, I find Antonio's table and as I walk up all of his friends stare hard at me. I tap Antonio on the shoulder.
"Do you think I could ask you something over in that hallway? It's nothing bad." I try to whisper say to just Antonio.
"Can you lean forward a bit again, Jen?" asks Francis. Francis is a known pervert who with all his red hair and freckles couldn't get a girlfriend if he were the last male in existence. I ignore the comment and apparently so does everyone else at the table. I flip my ponytail to the left of my head and look at Antonio.
"Francis, shut your trap! Jen-na? Is it? I kinda want to eat..." He stares longingly at his bag of Doritos.
"It won't take more than a couple of seconds." I plead.
"Can you just spit it out already?" Rud asks.
"I was planning to ask Antonio if he would go with me to Lizzy's party as my date," I say. I feel a tap on my shoulder and Lizzy is standing there.403Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡz72x5WISxA
"Stealing my boyfriend and attempting to crash my party? Beat it, freak." Lizzy says.
My face burns with embarrassment and I run from them, doing the one thing Paul specified not to do. I'm crying so hard I run into a trash can and someone throws something at my head. Maybe I am a freak... It's not my fault I'm taller than the other girls in our grade...
I'm so stupid... Welp, Antonio has definitely noticed me now... but then again... maybe not.
