First Robbery
Nothing feels better than doing something bad... Sure try to prove me wrong, but I say save that until after the thrill. I glance over at Aidan as he rips the metal door off the back of a Coca-Cola truck. He looks so hot when he does stuff like that! I mean, I have seen him do this type of stuff on footage several times when the news declares he needs to be caught, but this is my first time helping him with a robbery. I know I should be helping, but I am currently enjoying the bulge of his muscles as he unloads the goods.
My pink hair flows freely in the warm breeze and one look over the overpass's concrete barrier gives way to the cars driving below, somewhat completely oblivious to the fact that we are robbing a Coke truck. Sure, it's not cocaine, but I always preferred sweet beverages to drugs anyway. I pull a bubble gum flavored lollipop out of my pocket and pop it in my mouth. The black mask is uncomfortable, but it's one of the few things still protecting my identity.
I hear Aidan grunt and the truck is completely open. Peaking into the truck's inventory and I pluck a bottle of Sprite from the refrigerated semi-trailer and stalk my way to the front. The driver is unconscious behind the wheel and I can't help the smirk that takes over my face. I learned pressure points when I was younger, and they surprisingly come in handy for robberies. I don't know how long he'll be out, but decide I want to leave a mark.
The bottle hisses when I break the seal. I smell the addictive sugary lemon-lime concoction and pour the cool liquid on the man's crotch. I'm careful not to get it on his beer belly; and for a bit of extra fun, I shove him forward a slight bit before dumping the rest of the contents down his pants. Aidan strolls up next to me assessing my work.
"Now what do you think you're doing?" He chuckles.
I pull the lollipop from my lips as I say, "Leaving a message."
"And what message would that be, my sweet?" He wraps his arms around me and gives me a peck on the cheek.
"That it's dangerous to fall asleep behind the wheel," I smile mischievously. Inside I'm shivering, this is all new to me and I don't want to mess anything up. If I'm caught, I can only imagine the kind of trouble I'd be in...
"I see, and when did you learn how to knock people out using pressure points?" He asks. He grabs the empty bottle from my hands and flings it over the guardrail onto the road below. I hear the lovely chorus of angry honks as his strong arms snake their way to my hips. I feel comfort from my boyfriend's gesture, his caress coaxing out my next witty response.
"When it became dangerous to be in a candy business," I try to answer coyly. I pop the lollipop back into my mouth and grab a crate of sodas from the back; then I carry the load to a stolen car and shove it in the back seat. Aidan already put two crates in the car's trunk. "Ready to head out?"
According to a timer I set, the cameras will only be out for another three minutes. Aidan seems to know this and nods his head. Before he can move, I drag him in for a deep affectionate kiss, stunned he walks to the driver's side and the car purrs. I sit in the passenger seat and we speed away from our crime.
No cops were called, nobody recognized either of us, and we made away with the goods.
We leave the stolen items in Ivan's lab, a shack in the middle of a wooded area about 20 miles out. Apparently Coca-Cola is a rarity in prison...
As we are leaving Aidan asks me, "How was that for a first time?"
I shake my head in disbelief because I almost can't believe I did that, "I-i ... I don't know..." I look down at my hands as if they might have literal dirt on them.
"Woah, relax, Luna. It's not like you killed anyone, you just stole a couple of Coke crates. Also, you did it with me, so you weren't alone. Next time, will be more intense though." He stares out at the road for a minute, then slams his fist down on the wheel, "Damn, this was a bad idea, you weren't ready for something this big. We should have started off shoplifting."
"No!" I blurt, "I-i am ready, really... Besides shoplifting is a five-year-old's crime and last I checked I'm in high school. I can handle it." I know I wasn't convincing enough, even I didn't believe the lie.
"You won't be if those cameras were working and we were unaware." He grumbles. The steering wheel bends under his grip, but his hands, like mine, are hidden behind black gloves.
"Are you questioning my hacking abilities?" I feel hurt by the thought, but he's right; we need to be more careful. I've never done this before, what if it didn't work...
"No! No, baby, that's not what I meant, my sweet, I'm so sorry." He looks at me apologetically and with a deep breath, I forgive him. There's no need to fuss because Aidan loves me, he'd never let anything happen to me. Speaking of being cautious the chair cushion below me reminds me of our other crime.
"Isn't this car something we need to ditch?" I ask confused. I know a bit about thievery, it's just one of my first times participating instead of sitting on the sidelines. I know that we definitely can't return it to the Kroger parking lot we got it from.
"Shit! You're right! Why didn't I think of that?!"
"Maybe because secretly you like ending up on television." I challenge.
"Well, maybe someday we'll be on there together." He kisses me.
We change out of our black and into average clothes. Then crash the stolen car into a tree, I leak the gas throw a lit match and we head back for our home town of Clearwell with the help of another friend. I, again, am wearing my brown wig and my school clothes looking quite innocent.
Nobody even knows that we committed the crime. So, when I get back home I am pleasantly surprised at how everything went today. Aidan never told me to pour the drink on the man or to set the car on fire, but he never told me not to.
During dinner neither my mother nor father seem aware of the crime spree I went on. They probably will at some point and it scares me near to death to think about how disappointed Daddy will be in me, but it was such a thrill. I can't wait to do it again. I finish up my dinner and mother gives me my goodnight kiss as usual.
I slip into my night clothes and fantasize about Aidan (or as authorities call him Zandor) and I robbing banks. I even start to daydream about us evading the police and having turf wars with other villains. But let's face it, everyone likes Bonnie and Clyde, where could we go wrong?
It's a new day and I'm confident as I follow Elly to first hour. How would I look on TV? Wait! What's my alias? I can't be called Luna!! I pat my wig self-consciously hoping not a single strand of pink hair is visible. My normal hair is long, pink and noticeable. I had dyed it red, to begin with, but as I soon learned red dye fades fast. So, when it turned pink, I kept it pink.
Elly nudges me. "What?" I ask.
"Would you stop messing with your hair? I know you're embarrassed that the hair salon only had a light brown rather than your normal color, but it looks fine. Besides everyone is talking about Viktor's party. Which, by the way, I didn't see you at... Where were you? Was your father- Wait a minute! Wait, one agonizing minute! You better tell me you haven't been seeing Aidan!" She shrieks. About half the hallway is staring at us now and embarrassment burns my cheeks. I walk faster and pull her towards a random locker area.
"So what if I am..." I mumble, "He's not that bad," I reason.
"Oh yeah, whenever you're hanging around him you wear more make-up, also he gives me creepy vibes, lastly and most importantly - I say this because I'm your best friend - he's 19! He flipping graduated last year he should be out in the world dating hot girls who are his age. Not my innocent bestie," She pouts. Ha, innocent!
"Jeez, you lay it on thick... I am a junior; so, not so innocent. And aren't you being a bit melodramatic? It's not like he's robbing a cradle," I say. Looking at my bestie, she's probably gonna have more verbal diarrhea in 3... 2...
"I am in the drama club for the right reasons if I'm melodramatic. And excuse me for being concerned for my best friend! I really think-"
I cut her off, "Can we please change the subject?"
"Well," she looks at me skeptically, "Okay. So, while I was at the party you skipped, I heard from Zave, who heard from Alex, who heard from Mrs. Alacurki, who heard from principal Wyatt that there's gonna be a new student."
"So in simple terms, there's gonna be a new student? Nevermind the grade, gender, name, previous school, et cetera... What really matters here is who told who?" I say sarcastically.
"Glad we're on the same page. He's in our grade, and yes, he's a he. No name as of yet, nor previous location. But, not to worry, I'm on the case," She says. She puffs out her chest and puts on her I'm-gonna-stop-a-murderer-with-my-attitude face, and I bust out laughing. We continue to first hour and Elly lectures me on guys and tells me if the new guy is hot she's setting us up. I laugh at the thought of that, yet find myself, oddly enough, considering it.
