That Future Bell - poem

Pray for those small ones with guaifenesin dreams

And pray for the later ones who may not be protected

Throw out an arm to keep back your planet's fist

Pray for it all to turn out wholly unexpected

Here, we face our ears towards history

See the sun has so far risen

We shout calls into the future

Imagine their ears piqued to listen

My grandmother has alzheimer’s

It masks a waning state of health

We worry how years will take from her mind

Unassuming that death holds a fabulous stealth

In that way we all mimic my family

Hurriedly playing that troubleshoot song

Our feet in the footprints that refused to do better

Knee-deep, and still just stomping along

Looking back, life has never been seen so guaranteed

We are writing up our futures, and they might not be there

In the wake, in the roar, of disaster unhinged

Even now, children born into choking on air

Be aware of your own breathing, for just a moment now

Hear history reverberating, do what it takes to ring that bell

Where we cut trees, later plant bodies

Where we send smoke, fire will swell

In fear of noise we have forgotten

To horrify the silent hell
