Arya replied, “Ask Mumma. Do you know cooking?”
John replied, “I know, kind of. Tell me, what do you like to eat?”
Arya tilted her head and said, “I don’t know. What will you make?”
John smiled. “Something tasty. Can you help me?”
Arya questioned him, “I don’t know cooking. How will I help?”
John answered, “Just tell me where Mumma keeps the vegetables and spices.”

Arya said, “Okay,” and both went to the kitchen. Arya took a mini chair and stood on it.
John asked her, “Where are rice, onions, and tomatoes?”
Arya replied, “Rice is on the third shelf,” she said, pointing. “Onions and tomatoes are in the fridge?”
John got shocked. “Onions in the fridge!”
He went to the shelf Arya pointed at. He saw a big container of rice, and behind it there was a basket full of onions, garlic, and potatoes. He showed it to Arya and said, “Is this a fridge?”
She blushed and said, “Sorry.”

John took the required vegetables from the fridge and asked, “Arya, can you tell me where Mumma keeps the spices? Especially garam masala.”
Arya replied, “It will be in the first drawer, next to the fridge.”
John took it and said, “That’s it. Thank you for your help.”
Arya smiled and replied, “No problem! Can I go?”
John said, “Of course, you can.”

Arya went to watch TV while John continued cooking. After some time, John’s phone rang. It was Anvi.

Anvi asked, “Everything is fine?”
John replied, “Yes, going well.”
Anvi asked, “What’s Arya doing?”
John said, “Watching TV.”
Anvi asked again, “Are you cooking or ordering from a hotel?”
John replied, “Cooking! I’m making rice, dal, and a cauliflower gravy as a side dish. I think I’m almost done. Wait.”

John called Arya. She ran toward him and asked, “What happened?”
John handed her the phone. “Your Mumma is on the line.”

Arya smiled, took the phone, and said, “Mumma!”
Anvi asked, “Arya, how is caretaker uncle?”
Arya looked at John, smiled, and said, “He is so good.”
Anvi smiled. “Wonderful! Don’t disturb him, okay?”
Arya replied, “Okay! Love you, Mumma.”
Anvi said, “Love you too!”

Arya gave the phone back to John and went to watch TV.
John asked, “Everything is fine there, right?”
Anvi replied, “Yes. Just one problem.”
John asked, “What problem?”
Anvi smiled and said, “Earlier, you weren’t there—I was taking care of her. Now you are there, but I’m not. What to say?”
John smiled. “Time will answer.”

He ended the call and smiled. Arya’s words echoed in his mind:
“He is so good.”

It was a small but meaningful moment for a father.
Finally, John finished cooking. But a new challenge stood in front of him—would Arya like it or not?
He called her. “Arya, are you hungry?”
Arya replied, “No.”
But suddenly, her stomach growled. Arya blushed.
John smiled. “Let’s go. Please close the door.”

Arya went to close the door, while John placed the utensils and plates in the living room.
He served a generous amount of rice and asked, “Is this enough?”
Arya looked surprised. “No, it’s too much.”
John reduced the portion and served dal and cauliflower.
He asked, “Does it taste good?”
Arya took a bite and said, “It’s okay… not like my Mumma’s.”
John smiled. “Thank you.”

They both started eating. John watched Arya as she ate, a small smile on his face. It was a moment he had missed in his life.
Arya looked at him and asked, “Why are you looking at me?”
John replied, “You look cute while eating.”
Arya smiled. “Thank you.”
They continued their meal silently.
