Harry tosses and turns in his bed the night of July 30th. His 11th birthday is in 10 minutes and he can barely contain his excitement. Snape usually makes him a cake and they eat it at the playground where he and Harry's mother used to hang out at. His thoughts are interrupted when he hears a ferocious pounding coming from downstairs. He sits up in his bed as the pounding gets louder. He runs to press his ear against the door. He hears Snape step into the hallway and he decides to join him.
"Stay back, Harry," Snape orders as he holds his arm out in front of the child.
Severus reaches for his wand as the door shakes. With one final blow, it collapses in on itself, falling to the floor in front of them. Snape rolls his eyes as he releases his grip on his wand.
"Evenin' Professor. Sorry about yer door. I got excited. It's midnight you know and you remember what you said I could do on Harry's birthday. I can still tell him, right?" Hagrid asks excitedly.
"Tell me what, Snape? Who is this man," Harry asks looking wildly between the two.
"Why couldn't this wait until tomorrow, Rubeus?" Snape questions the man, ignoring Harry.
Hagrid shrugs his shoulders while giving him a slightly embarrassed look. Snape sighs and waves his hand at the giant man before sitting down. Hagrid bounces up and down before turning to Harry.
"I am Rubeus Hagrid, Gamekeeper at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," He starts
Harry still looks confused.
"You're a Wizard, Harry!"
"What?" Harry asks, in a shocked tone of voice.
"Don't encourage him, Harry. Rubeus, why do you waste time stating the obvious? Do you think I raised him to belive he is a muggle?"
"Oh, well I wasn't sure if he knew. He he asked what," An embarrassed Hagrid explains.
"I didn't expect you to know I was a Wizard. I've just never met anyone who works with Severus. I expected them all to be dark and serious like him," Harry repsonds.
"No, that's just the way Professor Snape is. Our teachers at Hogwarts are great and you'll be under the greatest headmaster to ever live, Albus Dumbledore!" Hagrid finishes dramatically.
Snape sighs as he leans forward on his couch, rubbing his temples.
"I have some business to take care of at school so Hagrid will take you to get your school supplies. I expected him to come later in the day yet here he is," He informs Harry.
"Oh and I got you a something," Hagrid announces as he reaches around in his large coat. "It got a bit crushed," he comments as he hands Harry a mangled cake in a white box.
Harry reluctantly takes it before casting a glance at Snape who nods at him. He takes a large chunk of it and shoves it in his mouth as Hagrid laughs and even Snape grins slightly.
When he is finished his cake, Hagrid clasps him on the back a little too hard.
"Let's be on our way then," Hagrid tells him.
Harry gives Snape a quick hug before following the gain't man out the door.
