I wake up in panic, short of breath, and I frantically look around only to find the others all asleep, the expressions on their faces calm. I sit there, enjoying the moment of peace. I take a breath and look around, trees surround us. As I scan the area once more I hear a branch snap, and my head whirls towards the sound, hoping to see the person lurking in the forest. I quickly reach for my knife, as I do I hear another snap, then a silhouette of a man appears, one who looks much like Kai. I quickly turn my head away, and steadily set down my knife. I slowly set down my knife, and get up, hoping to look as normal as I can to keep Kai from realizing I know that he’s here. I calmly walk over to Evalyn and shake her awake.
“Hey, Evalyn, wake up.” I say, her eyes burst open, as she frantically looks around, her eyes quickly lock in the direction of Kai. “Look at me” I say urgently, but trying to sound quiet. Her eyes meet mine, “We should leave, we're still close to the castle” I say, relatively loud, making both Iris and Tyler stir in their sleep.
“Wah-Oh, Okay, I’ll wake the others, you should gather the things we have.” She responds, risking a look towards Kai.
“Yep, got it.” I say as I stand up. I quickly grab the bag I was wearing along with the First aid bag that one of the others must have grabbed. Evalyn wakes up then others and we start heading south. Once we got a few feet away from the clearing I signal to the others to come closer,
“Yeah? What is it Ishmeet?” Ray asks, lowering his voice, as his eyes dart around.
“I think Kai’s following us. But don’t make it obvious that we know, alright?” I say, looking ahead,
“But what if he attacks?” Ty asks,
“Then we have to run, but let's hope that doesn’t happen” Evalyn says,
“So just stay calm? Alright, I-we can do that, right?” Iris says, talking to herself.
“Just till we can get away from Kai.” I say, trying to keep her from freaking out.
*
“Hey, Ishmeet!” Ray calls,
“What?” I respond,
“Up ahead!” I look to where Ray is pointing.
The Wall.
How could we have gotten so far? We were at the castle just a few dozen miles ago…right? We all come to a stop at the foot of the wall,
“Should we climb over the wall?” Ray asks, as he turns towards me.
“Well, Ishmeet, what do you think?” Evalyn asks, I glance a look behind us before answering.
“Let's go over, it might help us get Kai off our tails.” I say, and we start to scale the wall, using the vines to help us.
As we all jump down from the wall, expecting to see the southern lands in worse conditions than the northern side, but, it’s not.
“It, it's so pretty.” Evalyn says in awe, her hands hanging loosely at her sides,
“How? They’ve told us, all our life, that the south was a crumble down, a backwater place to live in. So how?” Raymond say in disbelief,
“This place, its what the north, what Librium, was supposed to be.” I state, staring at the purple roses in the distance. If I could, if we could, we would just stand there, admiring the land, but that was cut short when we heard a g*n shot.
“Hey! Who the h*ll are you? You all are trying to get over the wall aren’t you!” One of the guards yells, pointing a pistol at us,
I turn around, facing the guards, with my hands raised. “Wait! That's not what we're doing! We were just-” Another shot is fired, cutting me off. Time slows as I feel the bullet piercing my left hand, tearing through my skin, even as it rips through my hand. The bullet landing on the ground right behind me. I scream without even thinking, the only thought going through my head is how much it hurts,
“Ishmeet!” A hand reaches for my shoulder, pulling me back, another voice calls, yelling for me to run, and I do, I turn and run. More shots fire behind me, one whistling past my ear, I glance back, there's more guards than I saw before, now there's four, each with a six round pist*l. As I run I realize I can't hear any more shots, but as I start to slow down, I hear 3 more, along with cheers
“I got two of ‘em!”
“I got one as well-” But before the guard can finish their sentence I hear two more yells, I stop and turn around, only to see Tyler on the ground, clutching his bl*eding chest, along with Ray holding on to Iris as his calf starts to bleed.
“Tyler! Raymond!” I scream. I run towards Tyler who's struggling to get up, even though Evalyn is trying to help him. I quickly come to his side,
“Tyler! You have to get up!” I beg
“Please Tyler! Please get up!” Evalyn says, glancing back at the guards who are getting closer, I glance a look at Evalyn
“We’re gonna have to pick him up!” Evalyn and I grab Tyler, and get him up right. We both start moving, following Raymond, and Iris in front of us.
“Oi! Get your a*ses here!” A guard yells, pointing a pist*l at us, but just as his hand move to the trigger he’s knocked down, bl*od oozes down his chest, as he lays there, the other guards stop, standing over his body, fear in their eyes, just as another one is on the ground, one of the guards yell,
“The gods have come for us!” and they all scatter like mice. We all stop in our tracks, speechless.
“Did-Did he just d*e?” I ask shakily
“I-I think so-so.” Iris responds, her voice just as shaky as mine. As we stand there I feel a weight pull me down. Tyler’s weight pulls me down. My head snaps towards Tyler, and so does Evalyn
“Tyler!” Evalyn yells, though it doesn’t do anything, he’s out cold.
“Come on, Evalyn, we need to get him somewhere where he can lay on his back, so we can help him. But we can’t stay here, the guards might come back, or whatever the h*ll that was might.” I start to lead the others down the path in the distance, the sun setting to our right.

I quickly set Tyler down on his back, as I reach for the first aid bag. Quickly unzipping it I reach for tweezers, and hand Evalyn the gauze to have at the ready, along with an antiseptic, Hydrogen Peroxide.
I lift up Tyler's battered, ragged shirt revealing a deep g*sh, I take a breath and move the tweezer right above the the gash,
“Okay, just breathe, and don’t shake, or he’ll die.” I pinch the tweezers so that they’re shaped like a needle as I push them through Tyler's skin. His eyes flare open, and he starts screaming, his screams piercing the air with more pain than the bullet itself, Evalyn falls to her knees to Tyler’s side holding his hand, Iris does the same on the opposite side, and Raymond holding him down, his eyes closed from the pain from his own leg,
“Tyler! Please, you have to stop moving!” Iris begs,
“The sooner you do the faster this will be over!” Evalyn pleads, but Tylers keeps on screaming so I continue, bl*od covers my hands but I continue, once I reach the bullet which still seems fully intact, I open the tweezers, and push them further down. Once I’m sure I have the bullet in reach I grab onto it and pull it up and out. Blood spatters onto my face but I ignore it. Tyler's screams start to die down, his breathing still ragged. I drop the bullet on the ground, and turn to Evalyn who has the antiseptic at the ready, she hands it to me and I apply it to an extra cloth in the First Aid bag.
“Tyler, you're going to feel a burning sensation, and I’m sorry.” I say, making sure there's enough antiseptic on the cloth, when Tyler lets out a harsh laugh,
“It can’t be worse than that, right?”
“You’d be surprised.” Rymond says, tightening his grip on Tyler,
“Wha-what?” Without letting anyone respond I press the cloth on to the bullet wound, and another yell tears through Tyler;
“F*ck. F*ck. F*CK!” Tyler continues on with the string of swears as I try my best to clean the wound. I place the cloth bl*ody side up on my lap, as Evalyn hands me gauze, which I use to wrap around Tyler, covering the majority of his chest.
“Done.” I say, letting out a breath
“Oh thank the gods.” Tyler mutters, his breathing heavy. Just then I hear a thud to my left, I quickly turn my head, to see a figure running towards us, their hand waving in our direction, I quickly jump up, as do Iris and Evalyn.
“Iris, Evalyn, help Tyler and Raymond up. Just so were ready” I say, and they do just that,
“What do you want?” I yell, expecting no answer, but they do, he does.
“Ishmeet! Hey! It’s me! Raj!” My eyes widen, Raj? Raj starts to slow down in front of us.
“What are you doing here?” I ask, not sure of what else to say,
“I need somewhere to go, the castle is a mess. The kingdom is a mess. Everyone knows that the king is dead, and they won’t let me back in, then I saw you all climb the wall, so I followed.”
“And you didn’t help us?” Evalyn says quietly from behind me.
“What?” He responds, “Help? With what?” Evalyn doesn't answer, so I do,
“You’re fathers guards attacked us, no, shot us.” Raj’s eyes widen
“What! Are you all alright? The guards aren’t even supposed to have those! No one but the royal guards are supposed to unless licensed by the king…” He yells, realizing what his father did,
“Well, to answer your question, no.” I raise up my left hand, the one that was shot, blood running down my arm, “Tyler could have died had the bullet been the slightest bit higher, and Ray is bleeding out right now. Which I should probably work on fixing right now.” And almost immediately I hear another thud, I quickly turn to see Raymond on the ground holding his calf,
“Ray!” Iris shrieks, falling to his side
“F*cken dammit! Why the hell am I talking to you right now.” I get down on my knees, and grab the tweezers from before, “Raymond, I need you to lay down on your stomach, and right as I start I realize, I need to sterilize the Tweezers first, I just used them on Tyler.
“Sh*t” I mutter, Iris looks at me,
“What? What is it!”
“I need to sterilize these first,” I raise up the tweezers, “But I have no way of creating a fire, and only alcohol won’t work,
“Wait!” Raj interrupts, reaching for something in his pocket, “I have matches!” He hands me the small box,, and I light one, I slowly run it along the tweezers, then I dip the tweezers in the alcohol, making them as sterile as I can.
“Alright, Rayomd, this is gonna hurt like hell. But you're just gonna have to deal with it.” And before he could answer I push through the tweezers, and Raymmond lets out a deafening yell, but I continue on, quickly latching on to the bullet, and pulling it out. Raymond lets out a heavy breath,
“Holy-Holy sh*t” He pauses, catching his breath, “Holy hell.”9Please respect copyright.PENANASO0gXkvBET
