Aroden – last hero of the Azlanti and God of Humanity who raised the Starstone from the depths of the Inner Sea and founded the city of Absalom, becoming a living god in the process. Died mysteriously a hundred years ago, causing widespread chaos
Asmodeus – devil-god of tyranny, slavery, pride and contracts; lord of Hell and current patron deity of Cheliax
Avistan – the northern continent of the Inner Sea region
Barzahk – psychopomp usher responsible for maintaining the Dead Roads
Blackfingers – common other name used by alchemists, herbalists and assassins for Norgorber
Caliphas - port city in the southernmost county (also called Caliphas) in Ustalav
Chelaxian – a citizen of Cheliax
Cheliax – devil-worshipping nation in southwest Avistan
Chelish – of or relating to the nation of Cheliax
Desna – good-natured goddess of dreams, stars, travelers and luck
Gallowspire – the unhallowed former stronghold of the Whispering Tyrant, now turned into his prison
Garund – the southern continent of the Inner Sea Region
Geb – land of the undead in southeast Garund, ruled by the ghost of the wizard-king Geb and the Harlot Queen Arazni
General Arnisant - Taldan general who sacrificed himself to imprison the Whispering Tyrant beneath his tower in Gallowspire
Gnome – race of fey known for their small size, quick whit and bizarre obsessions
Golarion – the planet containing the Inner Sea region and the primary focus of the Pathfinder campaign setting
Gozreh – goddess of nature, the sea and weather. Often depicted as either male or female depending on the sphere of influence
Half-Elf – of human and elven descent, half-elves are often regarded as having the best qualities of both races, yet still see a certain amount of prejudice, particularly from their pure elven relations
Hell – a plane of absolute law and evil where evil souls go after they die to be tormented by the native devils
Inner Sea Region – consisting primarily of the continents of Avistan to the north and Garund to the south, this region is the focus of the Pathfinder campaign setting
Iomadae – goddess of valor, rulership, justice and honor who in life helped lead the Shining Crusade against the Whispering Tyrant before passing the Test of the Starstone and attaining godhood
Kyton – evil fiends who feed on the fear and suffering of mortals
Lastwall – nation dedicated to keeping the Whispering Tyrant locked away beneat Gallowspire, as well as keeping thorcs of Belkzen and the monsters of Ustalav in check
Lich – a spellcaster who manages to extend their existence by magically transforming themselves into a powerful undead creature
Mendev - cold, northern crusader nation that provides the primary force defending the rest of the Inner Sea Region from the demonic infestation of the Worldwound
Mortic – humans afflicted with the physiology and appetites of undead
Nex – nation bearing the name of an ancient wizard-king who warred with Nex before disappearing. Renowned for its arcane masters and talents
Nexian - of or related to the nation of Nex
Nidal – militaristic theocracy in service to Zon-Kuthon who saved the people during the Age of Darkness
Norgorber – god of greed, murder, secrets and poison. Often worshipped in different forms depending on the worshipper
Osirion - desert kingdom ruled by pharaohs south of the Inner Sea, in northeastern Garund
Osiriani – the native language of Osirion
Palatinates – three counties in Ustalav that have thrown off noble rule in favor of democratic government
Pharasma – goddess of fate, death, prophecy and birth. Ruler of the Boneyard where mortal souls go to be judged after death
Prince of Lies – another name for Asmodeus
Psychopomp – beings who guide souls through the Boneyard to their final judgement
Sczarni – a subgroup of the Varisian ethnicity known for being wandering thieves and criminals and contributing greatly to the prejudice against Varisians as a whole by other cultures. Often pass themselves off as non-Sczarni Varisians while attempting to avoid detection
Shackleborn – half fiend born from union with a kyton from the Plane of Shadow
Skald – language spoken in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings and by most Ulfen
Song of the Spheres – another name for Desna
Starstone – stone that fell from the sky ten thousand years ago, creating an enormous dust cloud that blotted out the sun and began the Age of Darkness, wiping out most pre-existing civilizations. Eventually raised up by Aroden and housed in the Cathedral of the Starstone in Absalom where those who pass its mysterious and deadly tests can ascend to godhood
Taldan (Common Tongue) – most widely spoken language in the Inner Sea Region

Taldor – formerly glorious nation now fallen to self-indulgence ruled by immature aristocrats and overly complicated bureaucracy
Tar-Baphon – the Whispering Tyrant’s mortal name
The Boneyard – a neutral plane where the souls of the dead are judged by the goddess Pharasma
The Dead Roads – a network of routes which connect the Boneyard with the Universe for psycopomps who cannot travel between realms
The Inheritor – another name for Iomadae
The Reaper of Reputation – another name for Norgorber
The Shining Crusade – a decades-long war fought against the undead and orc forces of the Whispering Tyrant
The Whispering Tyrant – incredibly powerful lich who terrorized Avistan for hundreds of years before being sealed beneath his fortress of Gallowspire a millennium ago
The Wind and the Waves – another name for Gozreh
Thuvia – desert nation heralding for its alchemical prowess and for creating the Sun Orchid Elixir which is said to grant eternal youth
Thuvian - of or related to the nation of Thuvia
Ulfen – a race of Viking-like humans from the cold nations of the north, primarily Irrisen and the Lands of the Linnorm Kings
Ustalav – gothic nation once ruled by the Whispering Tyrant; now ruled by humans once more but still bearing a reputation for strange beasts, ancient secrets and moral decay
Ustalavic – of or related to the nation of Ustalave
Varisia – a frontier nation northwest of the Inner Sea
Varisian – of or relating to the region of Varisia, or a resident of Varisia. Ethnic Varisians tend to organize in clans and wander in caravans, acting as tinkers or performers
Virlych – haunted portion of Ustalav never completely reclaimed from monsters and spirits after the imprisonment of the Whispering Tyrant
Westcrown - former capitol of Cheliax, now overrun with shadow beasts and despair
Worldwound - constantly expanding region overrun by demons a century ago. Held at bay by the efforts of the Mendevian crusaders. Refers to both the central rift to the Abyss at the region's heart and the greater territory currently held by demons (formerly the nation of Sarkoris)
