窗外，皇宮高塔已被烈焰吞噬，濃煙直竄雲霄。人們揉著惺忪的睡眼，在狹窄的巷口湧聚，低聲議論：
「是哪場大火？怎麼又出事了……」
「究竟皇宮內發生了什麼事？」
火光映照出他們驚恐的面容，也映出磚瓦與木樑被炙熱熾烤時發出的嘶嘶聲。半夜換崗的守衛早已混亂不堪，空氣中瀰漫著焦糊與金屬的腥味──此刻，全城屏息以待，等待未知災難再度掀起波瀾。
