Viridia was combing some of the dried mud from what hair that had come out from under her hood on her travels when a sudden, sharp knock on the door made her jump. She quickly grabbed one of her knifes from her soiled clothing, she would have to take the shriveled pile of cloths if the situation called for escape. Quietly, she walked up to the door, listening for signs of it about to be broken down. She slunk to the floor, peering through the crack between the door and floor to count the number of boots... two, two shiny, dainty, poor quality boots-it was Asher.
"What do you want Asher?"
She heard him jump from her firm voice as she got up off the floor, she placed the knife into the sleeve of her fresh outfit. She opened the door to his still startled face, it clearly spelled 'how did she know it was me?' still, he spoke first.
"I-I was wondering if you.. needed help..."
"Help? Getting dressed?"
Asher's face began to turn pink, again.
"Look, I just want to go now, thanks to you HE is down there trying to make me drink a huge pitcher of cheap ale to "steady my nerves". I'm ready to leave."
Just on cue, a "woohoo!" sound came from the bottom floor, sure enough the innkeeper was trying his best to embarrass Asher for entertainment.
Viridia smiled lightly, it WAS entertaining, but he was right, it was time for them to leave and she was taking too much time combing her hair, of all things.
"Fine, come in and help me clean up."
Asher quickly entered the room and shut the door to silence the noise on the bottom floor, it mostly worked. He agreed to help her clean out her hair of mud as she washed her face, for the sake of leaving quickly. He was even nice enough to fetch a small basin of water from the bathing room that the inn provided, on the first floor. He returned red faced and ever more determined to leave, Viridia even felt a little sorry for him.
She used a small cloth to rub the dirt off of her face, Asher would periodically dip the unfinely bristled comb in water and then raking it through her hair. it took about eight minutes total, definetely more efficent. Viridia checked herself in a small looking glass nailed to the wall (mirrors were expensive), she looked good. She caught a stray, grey hair and forced it to lay flat over her shoulder where it belonged, with the rest of her silver-grey hair.
Glad she looked nice, Viridia gave an approving nod to Asher, who was embarrased for having to do a woman's hair, never-the-less doing a GOOD job. She told Asher she had just one more thing to grab and that he should just head on outside, he solemnly agreed.
After he left, she immediately began to move weapons from the old outfit to the new, it took some time but she got them all in place. After securing the last strap, one that went around her lower back, she straightened her cloak so it hid everything well. She checked her hair once more, deciding to leave the hood down for now, it still looked good.
She stuffed the dirty clothes back into her bag, to be cleaned later, and noticed an odd chiming sound. She opened the pouch where she held her 'jewelry' and nearly dropped the bag. He wasn't in there. She looked around the floor to see if he had fallen out or if she had placed him somewhere else, though she knew exactly where she had put him.
She returned to the bag and began to rifle through the different compartments for the necklace. The more she found to be vacant, the more her hands began to shake, until only one was left. She opened 'that' pouch, horrified to see the necklace tightly fastened around the orb, she reached for it. She tried to pull off the tiny necklace, but it had connected itself in a way that it coated the orb, and couldn't be easily removed. Viridia contemplated cutting it off, but decided to try to solve things peacefully first.
"What are you doing?"
The necklace didn't respond immediately, then refused to answer her question but ask some of it's own.
"How did you get this?"
slight reverberations in the air gave Viridia a feeling of wrongness, this was about to end badly.
"It's mine, get off of it."
Rage seemed to roll off the small trinket. It spoke again, it's voice sounding even less than human than usual.
"This weapon should be locked away in the deepest vault of- how did you get it?"
As it's voice began to rise, Viridia feared someone would hear it, that would be trouble. In an effort to calm it down, Viridia began to answer some of it's questions.
"It's something my family has passed down, we vow to never let it fall into demon hands-"
Suddenly, anguish spread through her as she realized what has happened.
"I failed that vow."
The vibrations, both in the air and from the necklace stop, it began to talk quicker.
"I am no demon, mortal, listen to me now. you must travel along the human path from Venra to Sifra, I believe that's what you humans call it, I shall meet you on that path and take you to a safe place, hurry now."
Viridia suddenly knew that this was a beyond serious matter, but did not yet fully trust the tree spirit. Suddenly her mind felt blurred, and she felt something stronger than anger towards the small necklace. She knew what this was, she was being tricked.
"Your using magick."
As she said this, she once again began to rip at the necklace, trying to remove it from the orb. She now trusted it less than a demon. It held fast, but didn't otherwise fight back. It did begin to threaten her though.
"Human, if you do not bring me this orb, I will be forced to come after you for it, an entire army of demonspawn are hearding to you now, and both our worlds will be devestated if they get their hands on the Fayn Lacrima."526Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡtqBioBGIbS
Viridia was shocked into action, she grabbed a knife and cut the necklace at the chain, it didn't respond to her knife other than to fall from the orb. She grabbed at the necklace, asking the spirit if it was still able to speak to her, it could. She wrapped it around her wrist, it closing like a small bracelet now, and packed her things. She nearly ran out of her room when a single question left her lips,
"how long until they reach the city."
The spirit's answer nearly made her trip over herself,
"Two weeks."
