The next day, when Crystal woke up, she see Jasmine putting her head on the rock she sat last night, Star was sprawled on the ground fully spread out. “Wake up lazybones.” Crystal said, as she shook Star slightly, squinting at the light, and yawned. “Is it breakfast yet?” Star asked groggily, rubbing her eyes. “Yes, obviously. Are you stupid? It’s 8 a.m.” Crystal replied, shaking Jasmine up nearby. “So it is breakfast?” Jasmine said as she stretched. Crystal nodded. “Looks like we need to cook breakfast with whatever food we are given again.” She assumed. Jasmine pointed to the peach tree nearby. “Maybe we can use those as breakfast with some simple toast.” She suggested.
Star nodded while Jasmine took her history book again to read.
“Fun fact.” Jasmine announced “Do you know the Royals manifest early thanks to a crystal ball? In the early documents, royals have a Crystal ball that is royal privilege and using it means you are an elite.” Jasmine read aloud from the book. Star’s eyes widened in shock. “Wait seriously? Let me see.” She said, as she snatched the history book from Jasmine and continued. “Magic manifestation will have a high risk of mutating if made before a cat’s 14th birthday. Royals have a Crystal ball that lets them do it early, safely, so they keep in power.” Star read, eyes moving to read the lines.
Crystal shook her head. “No wonder it is illegal even for males to use magic before their 14th birthday or until the person went to camp. Now it make sense for the restrictions.” Crystal said, shaking her head. 10Please respect copyright.PENANA9JO55GIcsR
“Hey girls. Should we break a rule and sneak into the forest nearby for extra rabbit meat.” Jasmine suggested. “Absolutely yes! I hate it that no meat is available in this camp.” Star replied, voice excited and sarcastic. As if saying Jasmine should do it immediately without asking them. She smirked. “It’s settled. Then today afternoon. We go rabbit hunting.”
“Deal.” Crystal replied, grinning from ear to ear.10Please respect copyright.PENANA2gvkOdNXQz
Soon, time flew. It is now afternoon. Jasmine entered Crystal’s tent with a throwing blade. “This is for the rabbit.” She explained.
Crystal nodded and stood up. “So we go to the nearest forest. Which is Wanderer’s Haven. That place have the most wild animals and the animal meat there is perfect. But be reminded that never go into its core. No one ever returned from its core, and—” Jasmine blabbered. “Just summarize next time. No need for long explanations. I did not even ask for a full report of how the place is like.” Crystal mumbled under her breath. Her eyes darted to a snowy white rabbit and pointed at it. “Rabbit!” Crystal yelping. “Finally we get some meat for today.” Jasmine nodded in agreement as she took the blade and flung it. It hit perfectly and the rabbit went still and stopped moving. 10Please respect copyright.PENANAodAHLC4TA8
Back at the camp, Jasmine and Crystal saw Star on a rock prepping the fire. “Hello! I see that you caught the rabbit. Also, be prepared. We are getting our abilities at 3pm today.” Star greeted. Crystal shrugged it off and threw a matchstick into the wood sticks, immediately erupting into fire and stabilized after a short while.
She cooked the rabbit and soon, an aroma of cooked meat lingered in the air, making Star’s mouth water. After cooking, handed Jasmine and Star some parts of it. Luckily for them, none of the tents saw them as they cooked in a dark corner. 10Please respect copyright.PENANAMmhqkRhTnj
The girls soon went silent after eating the rabbit. Not knowing how to thank the friend. A guard broke the silence first.
“Everyone. Go to the camps now. It is starting soon. It should only be a short while. Unless it mutates.” A patrol guard announced, bellowing so every cat present can hear him. Crystal and Star then returned to their camps. As Crystal just sat down, a large magic ripple went across the camp. Crystal felt something flip open like a switch in her, a very powerful magical source, luring her to take it. Crystal gasped in awe as she looked at the orb that is suppose to be her magical source, and put a paw in it. Suddenly, she felt a gush of power entered her body, and the extreme pain of it. She gritted her teeth to minimize it. From afar, she felt someone tugging her anxiously, and Crystal opened her eyes and turned her head. She saw Star beside her, panic in her eyes.
“What happened?” Crystal groaned, still trying to recover from from the pain of accessing her ability. “You nearly mutated. Me and Jasmine nearly called the patrols.” Star replied, voice slightly trembling and cracking. Crystal raised an eyebrow. “Did I? I never knew.” She continued “And what ability did you get?” Star hesitated as if not expecting the question.
“Oh. Mine is Starlight.” She answered. “So. Guess your lucky stone isn’t so lucky after all. Right, moon girl?” Star teased, a grin appearing on her face.10Please respect copyright.PENANARi9Ga2x2fv
“Wait. How do you know I got moonlight?!” Crystal said, her tail twitched. “Easy. When you are mutating, I literally saw moonlight and magic comets forming around you. That cannot be more obvious.” Star explained. Crystal blinked rapidly. “ Oops?” She said.
“My gods, Crystal, you seriously had your only sign of luck with you, and you still did not get the dream ability you wanted. I swear you are cursed by the goddess of luck herself!” Star exclaimed, wheezing from laughter, her tail high as she randomly groomed Crystal“I hate life.” Crystal said, her tail swished violently but still smiling. 10Please respect copyright.PENANAyWNO0EM7jU

“Hello!” A familiar voice suddenly said behind them. They jumped in shock, and turned their head. Jasmine stood there, an uncontrollable grin on her face. “You should have seen yourself. How you jumped at my voice, hilarious.” Jasmine mocked. “Wow. Karma hits hard, right, Star?” Crystal added. “Girls, enough playing around, still, what are your abilities?” Jasmine questioned, her face turning serious once again. She raised her paw and countless vines shot from the ground and obeyed her. “Jasmine. Are you just showing off?” Crystal said, tone deadpan. “ I swear she is showing off at this time. Do you know when you are mutating Jasmine was watering plants thinking they can reverse your mutation?” Star whispered to Crystal’s ear.
Soon, night fell. It is a full moon tonight, the stars shine brightly on the night sky, the sound birds chirping and trees swaying slightly at the wind. Crystal watched the tranquility alone, Star is in her camp and Jasmine is doing some history review. Trees from the forest towered over her. It reminded her of something.
“Crystal! Always stay on the outskirts of Wanderer’s Haven, Celestara’s biggest forest! Myth say whoever who entered its central never returned!” She remembered her mom saying that. “Yes mom.” She replied. Everyone knew Wanderer’s Haven.
The stories were endless. Some say wanted fugitives and exiled cats from Celestara went there. Others said it was haunted. Some also said thr central of it is the gods’ area, where gods meet every century to make peace for the world. She located Camp Magic before, it is next to Wanderer’s Haven. The stars shined brighter as the clouds cleared. But Crystal swear the clouds are moving too quick. She heard lights sounds of a cloak against the wind, turned and saw a black figure inside the camp. The figure was running at an abnormal speed.
Crystal blinked. The figure is gone. No. It have to be a fact that her eyes were tired and hallucinating. Patrols in camp magic never allowed intruders inside. It had to be the only explanation. But she felt it was too fishy.
Still, she crept up to where the black figure was, and turned her head, claws raised. No one was there. Her eyes widened, heart pounding. She ran to her own tent quickly. 10Please respect copyright.PENANAFnJFjru7Dt
She saw Star on in her tent, staring at the clock like it had offended her. Her eyes narrowed into slits. “What happened?” Crystal asked. Star merely pointed at the clock. 10.30 pm. No way. She remember it is 9.45 pm just now. Crystal sat straight suddenly, fur on the end, tail curled towards herself, hearing another suspicious rustling sound. “Did you hear that?” Crystal asked. Star nodded silently. “Well. Maybe it is the patrols. The patrols of Camp Magic are always powerful and can protect the camp from intruders.” Star mumbled to the air.
“Flick!” The candle in the tent suddenly went out. Star yelped as the went off. Star always hated the dark. “Star, it is time to sleep. Stop it.” Crystal purred, licking her own paw. Star soon calmed down and curled up in a cardboard box. Crystal yawned and went to Jasmine’s tent. She was summoning plants and watering them. Again.10Please respect copyright.PENANAh3HtDXNfFF
“Hi Crystal.” Jasmine said. “Hi. Do you need an extra cardboard box to sleep in?” Crystal said, tone tired and unbothered. Jasmine shook her head. “No need I have a box right there.” She said, pointing to a plain brown box nearby. “Can’t sleep without it.” Jasmine added. Crystal nodded and returned to her own tent, dragging a cereal box behind her, and curling up inside it. Ignoring the white feathery bed beside her. The night was very quiet. Only the sounds of crickets and distant sounds of birds sang in the night under the stars.
