Analysis
After exchanging several attacks, Naruto activates his Rasengan, while Sasuke activates his Chidori. When they were about to rush towards each other, Sakura arrived, screaming at them to stop. Therefore, the episode will focus on the battle between Naruto and Sasuke, Shikamaru’s promotion as a chunin, and Orochimaru’s plans, to mention a few.
As Shikamaru is officially promoted to Chunin while Lee accepts undergoing the operation, Sasuke is recuperating in the hospital after the injuries he received in the Land of Tea. At the beginning of the episode, the scene takes place at a hospital in Hidden Leaf Village. At the hospital, Sasuke is recuperating from the injuries he got in the Land of Tea. At that moment, Sasuke is disappointed in himself because Naruto is stronger than him. To support this, we are shown Sasuke’s memories. For instance, he remembers how Naruto defeated the Rain Ninja and Aoi while he couldn’t defeat them. Therefore, Sasuke is devastated when he is lost in his thoughts to the extent that he can’t hear Sakura offering to bring him food. Moreover, Sasuke’s feeling worthless reminds him of when Itachi told him he was weak. This feeling of hatred will later compel him to make bad choices; hence, this scene is a foreshadowing of what will happen later in the plot.
There are two reasons why Shikamaru is promoted to Chunin. In the episode, Tsunade said that the third Hokage was very impressed with Shikamaru’s match. Even his proctors were impressed, hence why Shikamaru is a Chunin. It is ironic, isn’t it? Shikamaru, who doesn’t like too much work, is now a chunin. From my point of view, Shikamaru is now a Chunin because he is a better strategist and is intelligent. When it comes to battles, he comes up with a plan or evaluates whether it is worth the risk to fight. Therefore, the village needs a ninja who plans first before taking drastic actions, hence why Shikamaru is a chunin. He is a dynamic character who has grown as a ninja because of the story’s action.
There are other points to consider about Team 10. For instance, Asuma and the rest of Team 10 celebrate Shikamaru’s success as Chunin, as this is supported by a guitar and a Japanese flute playing in the background. While they were conversing, Ino told Choji that she plans on having a diet because she believes that boys are only interested in slim girls. Furthermore, she said that Choji should take care of himself because no girl will date him because of his weight.
However, when Ino left, Shikamaru gave some words of encouragement to Choji. He said, “Despite what most women seem to believe, men don’t always go for the skinny girls. Most guys I know like girls with a little meat on their bones; it just looks healthier. Oh yeah, and the reverse is true too, you know. I bet she would be twice as popular if she put on a few pounds instead of starving herself. She should eat.” In response, Choji laughs, saying, “You’re one hilarious guy, Shikamaru, but you’re kind of a genius too.” Choji then said in his mind, “He is more amazing than Sasuke and Neji could have dreamed of being.” Shikamaru’s words seem to convey to women that they should not worry about their weight to have a man in their lives. Rather, they should learn to love themselves, because the right guy will love them for who they are. Therefore, this episode is intriguing. Moreover, there is a description of Shikamaru in which Choji says he is funny and a genius. The way it seems, the episode reveals Shikamaru’s personality. Despite being lazy, he is very wise, hence why he is a Chunin.
Angry and jealous that Naruto has continued to get stronger, while he is still not strong enough to defeat Itachi. When Naruto arrives at the hospital, Sasuke is angry when he hears Naruto’s voice, and then Sasuke has a weird expression on his face. To make matters worse, Orochimaru also had the same expression when he said to the Sound Four, “The time is right.” At another location, he instructs the Sound Four to go to the Hidden Leaf Village. At that moment, Orochimaru returned as the antagonist in the anime “Naruto.” What are Orochimaru’s plans for the Leaf Village? Could it be that he wants to capture Sasuke? All of these questions make the audience even more curious, hence compelling them to continue watching the anime “Naruto.” Moreover, Sasuke’s jealousy and anger give the audience a hint that there will be a battle between Naruto and Sasuke; hence, there is the use of foreshadowing when Orochimaru is back in the picture, and Sasuke’s jealousy hints at a battle between him and Naruto.
The scene changes to more positive energy as one is introduced to the characters, Tsunade and Rock Lee. Both are on the rooftop of the Hokage headquarters, where Lee has decided to become a shinobi as soon as he heals from the surgery. Moreover, Lee said to Tsunade that being a shinobi means everything to him because he wants to prove that even though he has faults, he can still become a shinobi. However, Tsunade says there is a chance he could die. Despite this, Lee said, “It is my dream; what can I say?” At that moment, this had a huge impact on Tsunade’s reaction. Lee’s statement reminded Tsunade of Naruto’s words when they first met. Naruto said, “It’s my goal; just watch, ’cause one day I will be Hokage. To be Hokage, that is my dream.” Therefore, it shows a similarity between Lee and Naruto. They are both willing to achieve their dreams, no matter what. The evidence is shown when Tsunade says in her mind, “Such ambitious children seem to come from this village.” Moreover, she said in her mind, “Sarutobi sensei, I can see you were a magnificent Hokage.” Sarutobi sensei is the Third Hokage who died to save the Leaf Village and was her former master when she, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru were kids and Jonin. Furthermore, this proves that the Third Hokage is one of the most important characters in this anime, as it reminds the audience that they should not forget about this important character. After hearing Lee’s ambitions, Tsunade informs Lee to prepare himself for the surgery; hence, this scene is all about positivity. It helps to lighten the mood before the audience witnesses the battle between Naruto and Sasuke.
He challenges Naruto to a fight when he and Sakura come to visit. Naruto accepts, and the two head to the roof. In this scene, some incidents trigger Sasuke’s jealousy. First, Sasuke remembers how Naruto defeated Gaara using his shadow clones and the summoning jutsu to summon Gamabunta. Sasuke is frustrated because he couldn’t defeat his opponent, Gaara. As a result, dramatic music plays in the background with a mix of Japanese flute, bass guitar, and electric guitar to symbolise that things are about to get even more serious. Second, Sasuke remembers Itachi’s words, such as “You are still too weak” and “You don’t have enough hate, and you know something, you never will.” These memories are painful to Sasuke because he hates Itachi for killing his parents and the whole Uchiha clan. In other words, Itachi is the main reason Sasuke is angry because he said that Sasuke is weak, and since Naruto is stronger than Sasuke, Sasuke starts believing Itachi’s words. At that moment, Sasuke wants to do everything to become strong, even if it means fighting with Naruto. As a result, the electric guitar starts playing in the background to signify the intensity of the opening battle between Sasuke and Naruto. When she witnessed what happened, Sakura was worried about Sasuke because of the curse mark. Therefore, she tries to be a messenger between Naruto and Sasuke, but it doesn’t work. The curse mark signifies the return of Orochimaru, which also shows a foreshadowing of what will happen later in the plot.
After exchanging several attacks, Naruto creates a Rasengan, and Sasuke prepares his Chidori. The two rush towards each other, with Sakura screaming for them to stop. The music gets more dramatic and intense when Naruto and Sasuke are about to fight. To signify the intensity of the situation, the music has a drumbeat effect. Furthermore, there is an electric guitar with a rock-n-roll effect when the fight intensifies. For instance, Naruto activated his Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu to use his technique known as the Uzumaki barrage, while Sasuke activated his Fireball Fire-Style Jutsu to defeat Naruto’s shadow clones. Both of their attacks were ineffective. Moreover, the fight gets even more interesting when Naruto activates the Rasengan and Sasuke activates the Chidori. This is an intense moment when a Japanese flute plays in the background with a mix of electric guitars. When Sakura realised that her teammates wanted to hurt each other, she tried to stop them by running in the middle of their attacks. What will happen next? Will Sakura get hurt? This leaves the scene in suspense until one sees the next episode. Moreover, the next episode will be even more intriguing because the audience will likely see Orochimaru, the antagonist, and they will also learn about his plans for the Leaf Village and Sasuke Uchiha.
The lesson from this episode is that women should learn to love themselves. They don’t need to starve themselves to find love, as Shikamaru stated earlier in the episode, since there are other ways of maintaining a healthy body.
