Correct. The files of Alden's service in the Navy show that he testified about a fleet of corsairs that not only had the aid of sea monsters but also members of the crew that died in battle. It was well known that Alden joined the navy for his daredevil tendencies and that he enjoyed adventure. When a few of his close comrades and civilians were taken prisoner by Captain Lalh, he infiltrated his ship and assisted in their release. Alden took a particular interest in the sapphire since he observed Captain Lalh wielded its power and figured it must be a source of power, so he stole it and rigged explosives on the ship fearing how much of a threat the sinister crew posed.
