這是一本關於新莊的散文集，講述台灣作家鄭清文先生兒時，在舊鎮（新莊）的記憶，很難想像新莊在古老時代是離河水如此的接近，一個又一個聚落的名字背後，總是有一段故事。比如頭前的化成路，是清代武舉人陳化成的名字。迴龍舊時稱斬龍，等等.....之類小故事背後，都是以前人對環境的觀察。而現今的社會變遷後，我們似乎遺忘這些故事。不是說過往美好，而是我們都是在失去的路上。
