lt had a sense of curiosity towards Freys’ situation it was nothing to get involved in as of yet. Flying overhead was a large shriek, looking up revealed the source to be a group of 6 monstrous flying bats; there was no doubt that this was the town guard, but why were they flying into the lower portions of the city? I suppose it could be possible that there was some sort of riot down there, all of these thoughts rang through EJ’s head as he continued to stare at them. Frey turned and shouted at him,
“Come on EJ, we’re almost there.”
The storefront wasn’t what the group was expecting. It was a small store that was on the first floor of a two-floor complex, which probably confirmed that the second floor was the home of the store owner. Entering the store caused a familiar ding that continued to ring, standing up from behind the counter was an elf. He wore glasses and was incredibly well groomed. He opened up his arms,
“Ah, how can I help you, fine young men?”
The man's words seemed genuine, and he had a warm smile. EJ responded,
“Well sir we came on behalf of Oltrox to pick something up for him.”
The man looked as if he had a eureka and raised his finger in the air,
“Oh I was just finishing that! Please give me a moment to go get it.”
The smith entered some kind of room that was behind him, leaving Frey, S’kelt, and EJ alone.
The bell rang again as the door opened, and stepped inside a woman; she looked similar to Uvy being incredibly pale and having no mouth. She wore incredibly regal clothing and had her hair up in a bun. She walked up and down the small shop isles, which held different kinds of common magic items; she held a fan in her right hand and was waving it back and forth in an attempt to cool her off. EJ whispered to Frey and S’kelt,
“She looks familiar, but I can’t put my finger on who she is.”
S’kelt swiftly responded to EJ’s hypothesizing,
“Well whoever she is she certainly knows how to dress.”
The smith soon returned with what looked to be a large glass container that housed a magnificent dull yellow chalice, embedded with 3 of these beating heart-shaped red gems, it also had what appeared to be a slot for some square object to fit into.
The woman walked over,
“My my Mr. Bastil, that is quite the device.”
The man seemed surprised to see the woman and then looked back at the group.
“Oh my, I’m so sorry I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Adamar Bastil.”
He then looked back at the woman and questioned her,
“Madam Councilwoman, what brings you here today?”
The party turned back to face the woman, who had a smile on her face,
“Oh Adamar you don’t have to address me in such a way, please just call me Vara.”
S’kelt immediately got on one knee as if to bow, and took Vara’s hand, planting a kiss on it; EJ also bowed but not to the same extent. Frey questioned this,
“What are you two doing?”
S’kelt was pissed off by such a question but kept it well masked, he turned around and stood up
“Do you not know when to bow when one of higher authority is introducing themselves?”
Vara gave a laugh and said that it was fine. She introduced herself as one of the leaders of the nation of Nyxis, a councilwoman; the government of the nation was set up to be run by a group of councilmen with each one being a representative of a race within the nation. Vara was the representative for the changelings. Frey took hold of the box that withheld the goblet-like device and stored it in a bag that he had been carrying for said purpose. They exited the store, which soon revealed the sounds of a reptilian screech, the culprit soon crashed into the ground, sending its rider clean off of its back; a partially armored man with two blades on his back was now on the ground and appeared at least a little injured by the fall. He looked to have been riding a wyvern. In quick succession two of the bat-like creatures landed next to it, however, their riders weren’t wearing the usual attire of the city guard. One of them stepped off and gave a laugh,
“Well I didn’t think the changeling representative would be here!”
Vara appeared unphased as the man said this, she simply stepped back and said to the party,
“Think of this as a test…”
S’kelt immediately stood next to her, as did EJ. Frey however ran forward and knocked the man unconscious, as the other one pulled out a small hand crossbow, taking aim at Frey. The man shouted,
“Glory to the true king!”
A loud gunshot was heard ringing out through the surrounding city block, the three of them looked around and the culprit was revealed. Blut was holding his musket, and Krimson was standing right next to him,
“Sorry for arriving rather late.”
Blut said in a snarky yet monotone voice. Blut and Krimson both walked over to the remainder of the party; Frey however walked over to the bat creatures which seemed to be startled by the sudden stress that they had just been put through. Frey however was able to calm them down simply by rubbing upon their faces; the man who was thrown off of his wyverns back limped over to Frey,
“I’m impressed, I don’t think I’ve seen someone calm the gloomstalkers down so quickly.” Frey quickly turned around to see the man had pale almost purple skin, sharp eyes, and what appeared to be a slightly receding hairline but it was hard to tell since he had a hood up. Vara swiftly made her move, sensing the confusion
“Oh Frey, this is Vasile, he's the head of the royal guard and a general for the republic.”
Vasile in turn bowed to Vara and then to Frey,
“I apologize, councilor, I shouldn’t have allowed these vagrants to get so close.”
He then turned his head over to Frey once more,
“I would like to speak with you at a later date whenever you’re available please come to the capitol building, and tell them I sent you.”
With this Vara and Vasile walked to the Wyvern and got on its back with the gloomstalkers in tow they set off back towards the capitol. At this point, EJ, and S’kelt had been asking Blut and Krimson the most obvious questions at the time,
“Where were you two?”
EJ started. S’kelt continued with a more harsh tone,
“While I understand that we all hold our own secrets you could have been rather helpful.”
Krimson held his hands in front of him, attempting to divert blame like that of a child whenever they accidentally break an expensive vase
“While I do apologize on the behalf of both of us for not telling you all sooner, it was a rather urgent matter that we had to attend to.”
Blut nodded in agreement to what Krimson said. EJ sighed, understanding that now was not the time that he would be getting answers; they made their way back to the library with their first mission being a success.
