My brother’s name is Alexander Marine Lessly, Alex for short. He is tall and his size is average, not fat nor skinny. He has dark brown hair that is squared around his forehead. His eyes are like a dark sky, or a dark wave crossing the sea. Alex’s attitude is bright, he always looks for the good in everyone and everything. Animals, people, and events.
My name is Layla Kosmo Lessly, Lay-Lay is my nickname. I am just like my brother, tall and average-sized. I have slightly darker brown hair than my brother, and my hair is cut at the middle of my back, and it covers one of my eyes. I´m nice, but I never see the good in anyone but my brother, not even myself. I love Alex with all of my heart. I am fifteen and he is only twelve, so I always look after him. Anyway, it is early in the morning, precisely 5:57 am, I barely slept at all. I had this creepy, but lovely, nightmare. In it, I felt pulled near the middle of a forest about nineteen miles away from my house. I could not remember the name of the forest, though.
I arrived about half an hour later, not even a little bit tired from the journey. And I was running there, too, so it didn’t make sense that I wasn’t tired. I paused, afraid of what might be waiting for me to enter the forest, there could be wolves, coyotes, snakes, or bears.
Then I realized that there was a town just one-third of a mile away. If there is something there, I can just run to that town over there. Convincing myself that I would be safe, I walked into the forest.
I was in the middle of the forest after forty five-minutes had passed. I heard a twig snap, even though I hadn’t moved any. It was coming from behind me, but I didn’t dare look.
“My love,” it was the familiar voice of my dreams. It was a boy’s voice, but it sounded like an angel’s. When I heard his voice, I relaxed. “I finally found you again. Why do you keep running from me? I love you. And do not worry, we will meet in person soon. Goodbye, for now, my love.”
It isn’t the same every time, but the voice is always from the angel boy. This time I let myself wish that he was real, which makes me feel stupid. No boy will ever love me.
Then I remember where I was in my dream. It was the Forbidden Forest. The people call it that because it was closed due to far too many accidents going on there. And by closed, I mean forbidden. Maybe he is real.
I walk downstairs to get a cup of coffee.
“Good morning, Lay-Lay. Nightmare again?” asks my little brother.
“Yeah. What are you doing out of bed so early in the morning?”
“I heard you talking in your sleep, so I came down to comfort you when you woke up. I’m sorry you keep having these nightmares. Cup of coffee and grilled cheese?”
“You always know exactly what I need and want, don’t you?”
He smiles and walks into the kitchen. I can see that he was watching the Daily News on the TV from where he sat on the couch. I turn away but hear something disturbing.
“Here we have the lady that was walking nearby and heard the poor man’s scream. What do you have to say about all of this?”
I turn around. The lady looked like she had been crying. I don’t want to know what happened, but curiosity always gets the best of me.
“For everyone who is listening, I am so sorry to tell you this, but the kind man Kole Lonn Jackson has died in the Forbidden Forest. He died last night around 10:09 and his body was found this morning around 5:27. He was such a kind and respectful man. I heard his scream and called the police right away, they arrived a few minutes later, after a while they found his dead body.” She starts crying again.
“And what is your name, miss?”
“Maria Vanos.”
I stand, shaking so much that it looks like I have been seeing monsters everywhere I look. Then, my brother walks back into the room.
“Are you okay? You look pale.” He runs toward me. I tell him that I was watching the news.
“If it’s going to make you this scared, you shouldn’t be watching the news anymore. Also, I am very sorry for Mr. Kole’s death, I know you were close to him.”
I start to tear up. Though I am glad that it isn’t my brother, I feel a terrible loss for Kole. He was my teacher, but also my friend.
He would always help me whenever he could, whether it be school or home or anything.
I eat my grilled cheese and drink my coffee in a hurry. I want to calm down and get ready before 6:45. That way I still have a little while to get the last bit of my homework done. I am in 9th grade, I go to Howter High School.
I head to school at 7:25, doors open at 7:30, the bell that tells everyone to hurry and get in class rings at 7:55, and the bell to start the school day rings at 8:00. Spanish is 8:00-9:30, first break is 9:30-9:40, Algebra 1 is 9:45-11:20, lunch is 11:20-11:50, gym is 11:55-1:15, and art is 1:20-2:40. But I have book club on Wednesdays, so I don´t go home until 3:05 on Wednesdays. I finish my food at 6:26, twenty minutes after I had finished watching the news. I quickly go to my room, pull my math homework out of my backpack, and grab a pencil.

“Yes, I am finally done!” I say aloud. “It’s already 7:04!” I better hurry and get to school! I hear the horn to our dark blue Chevy honk. I grab everything and shove it in my backpack. I promised myself that I would never be late after that time in seventh grade. I hear the horn honk again, so I run outside and get into the car.
I arrive at school five minutes later, I live just a few houses away from my school. I get out of the car, go inside the school, get my books and pencils and other stuff, put my backpack and lunchbox in my locker, and go to class all in a rush.
By the time I am done it is 8:04, which means I only have one minute to get to class, and my class is three minutes away while walking. I run down the halls with all my energy. I’m here! The school bell rings as soon as I sit in my assigned seat.
My first class is Spanish, which is one of my strengths. I’m good at all classes, but math and Spanish are my best subjects.
Anyway, we are reading a book called “The Hunter”. We are on chapter three, page twenty-four. We write an essay.
“Good morning, class,” says our Spanish teacher. Her name is Hannah Yule Wanda. over each chapter.
“Good morning!” I say, but no one else says anything.
Miss Hannah speaks again, “Thank you, Layla. Okay, we are on which page? Sorry, I keep forgetting.”
“I believe we are on the first page of chapter three, page twenty-four, first paragraph.”
“Thank you again, Layla. Okay, I will check that everyone is here and then we will start reading….Maria Ni?”
“Here.”

“Here.”
She goes on with the list. She calls Dy-Ann Kolla and Sammy Hilton, then me, and lastly Gigi Viv.
“Alright, who wants to read? How about….Dy-Ann, would you read?”
“Yes ma’am…‘This is it,’ said Martin. ‘This is where we are going to make our new home. Isn’t it lovely, Tina?’
‘Yes, it really is quite beautiful. What do you think Sinnir?’
‘Eh, I guess. I’m going hunting.’ And with that, Sinnir grabbed his gun and machete and set off. It took him a while to find a forest, though when he did he shot anything that was big enough for his taste. This included hares, deer, and medium-sized to large birds. When Sinnir got back it was 8:41pm. The walls were built and now Martin was building a roof. ‘Let me help ya. What do you want me to do?’ Sinnir was actually being generous, which happened about once a month, not every month, though. But this was his second time, something must’ve made him very satisfied.
‘Alright then, get up here.’ Martin said. As Sinnir was climbing the ladder that Martin had made, something could be heard in the distance. Sinnir had reached the top and looked out from the roof. A horse was approaching, with a man riding it.
The man was approaching quickly, and soon he was close enough to touch the house. He got off of the horse and started to speak. ´Hello there, my name is Peter. Peter Dredd Fred.´
The bell rings. I close my book and head to my locker to grab everything I need for the next class.

The bell rings again.
I better hurry and get to class! I run to class and get inside at the same time the bell rings, again.
Everyone is crowded in a corner. I go to see what is going on, and why everyone is so quiet. I walk to the other side of the room.
¨What's going on, Jane?¨ She doesn't answer, so I look down at where she is looking. No, please, no. This can't be happening. Not again. I see that Mr. Jade Kitts is dead on the lawn of the school. I see him out the window. He is on the concrete, right outside the door, stone dead.
Then the principal walks in.
¨I saw what happened! Is everyone else okay?!¨
Everyone turns around and nods their heads, then they turn back around. All of a sudden, I hear someone say something, but no one spoke.
‘I understand that you feel sad and angry, and I am sorry. Soon you will understand, it must be done.’
